Submission Guidelines
for Writers, Artists & Photographers

Thank you for your interest in contributing to Kokoro.

We're thrilled you'd like to participate and share your thoughts and experiences. All we ask is that you're an active subscriber.

At the present time, Kokoro cannot afford to pay for any content. We respect the business of writing, and hope our ability to pay for quality content will change once Kokoro becomes established. Simultaneous submissions are fine. We request one-time print rights only. All other rights are retained by the owner. If you are a professional writer, we will be pleased to offer you a business card sized ad immediately below your submitted material. You may include a photo, web site link, or list of other published material.

Articles
Topics should be of interest to Japanese-style martial artists of all ranks and ages. We welcome articles on martial arts history, training, techniques, philosophy, well-known martial artists, and individual experiences. We also welcome fiction, original artwork, comics or cartoons, original photography, articles for or about children, health or stretching, and Japan or Japanese customs as it relates to martial arts.

Most articles should fall under 500 words. Technical articles or interviews can run as long as 1500 words. Articles may be submitted in hard copy or via e-mail as a Word document.

Kokoro reserves the right to refuse to print any material submitted on whatever grounds. Kokoro reserves the right to edit any material submitted prior to printing. Kokoro respects all rights to any written material. If you site facts in your submission, please site your sources.

Author Information
Please provide brief information about yourself with your submission. This could include your martial arts style and rank, education, profession, city of residence, school, and teacher. Contact information is permissible. This is subject to editing.

Photo
Photos must be in sharp focus, well-lit, and composed so that the main subject is not too small or cut off. You may submit hard copy prints or digital photos. Hard copy prints will be returned after scanning if you include a SASE. Digital photos should be submitted at full size with a minimum of 300 dpi for print.

Please provide a caption for each photo. Photo credit should be included for each photo as well.
